Ambiguity and complexity are often words people will inappropriately use to describe matrix type structures, often because the fluid and socially networked nature of heterarchical structures are counter intuitive to people brought up on diet of organisational hierarchic thinking and practices – “let’s blame it on the structure and not my own parochial beliefs and self limited skill set” being the often less challenged, yet arguably perhaps the more genuine reason behind the use of such words.
The reality is multiple report lines, working across organisational and ‘ego’ boundaries, having responsibility without authority (and vice versa), are just a few of the realities people working in dynamic and globally integrated structures have to work with on a daily basis.
The Matrix Ambiguity Management Workshop enables people to gain an understanding that role ambiguity and structural complexity are not reasons for inactivity or disempowerment, and that complex structures require the use of proactive tools and bounded empowerment behaviours which enable people to make matrix type structures to actually work.
People attending the Matrix Ambiguity Management Workshop can expect to leave with:
• An understanding of the rhetoric and reality of ambiguity in matrix type structures
• Knowledge of how someone's preferences can cloud and colour their view towards complexity
• Tools, tips and techniques that will help people to deal more proactively and effectively with ambiguity
• The confidence to meet matrix type challenges assertively and deliberately for Stakeholder benefits
