Most managers will have learnt their leadership skills from working in hierarchical organisations and when they first come into contact with a matrix environment they often find it a confusing, challenging, liberating, and for some, a de-motivating experience ! This is because the beliefs, behaviours, knowledge and skills that managers need to use in dynamic and often complex matrix structures are very different from those they may have come to rely upon when managing in hierarchal structures. The kind of silo thinking, parochialism, negative politicking or ‘scapegoating’ that is often behaviourally learnt in other types of organisational structures are simply destructive and ineffective in collaborative, inclusive and infinitely more complex matrix type structures.
The Matrix Management Workshop is challenging because leaders question their assumptions about leadership, which enables them to ‘un-learn’ hierarchy, in order to ‘re-learn’ fundamental matrix beliefs and behaviours that generate an inclusive and collaborative matrix management style. A process that involves managers recognising the need to 'give up' the typical over reliance on using 'positional power’ to deliver results; and instead understanding how to think, behave and manage 'multi-dimensionally'.
People attending the Matrix Management Workshop can expect to leave with:
• Clarity on the Beliefs, Behaviours, Knowledge and Skills that are effective when Matrix Managing
