The periodic goal alignment cascade in organisations often results in some people mistakenly believing that once objectives have been set and ‘communicated down’, goal alignment has been achieved. Similarly some people when given a goal, project, process or initiative to deliver across organisational boundaries, will equally believe that once they have ‘informed’ stakeholders what is to happen, that is the end of the Stakeholder engagement process. Both of these kinds of typical ‘hierarchical’ mindsets result from a misguided belief in the power of ‘command and control’ and a lack of understanding about the differences (and symbiotic relationship that exists) between Goal and Stakeholder Alignment.
The Matrix Stakeholder Alignment Workshop enables people to clearly identify a stakeholders goals and needs; to reconcile conflicts between different stakeholders agendas by gaining clarity on how stakeholder goals and needs will be measured; and a process for agreeing who will be doing what and when in a goal, project or process, in order to delight and meet the expectations of all the key stakeholders. In other words people will learn not only that the Objectives Cascade process only tell you WHAT has to be done, but more importantly , how the Stakeholder Alignment process encourages people to determine HOW it will be done – and both processes are equally needed in complex structures to deliver inter-dependent organisational goals.
People attending the Matrix Stakeholder Alignment Workshop can expect to leave with:
• An understanding the fundamental differences between Goal and Stakeholder Alignment
